Confession time... I'm not even sure I would pay MY own rate..

Me, too. It kills me to pay crazy rates and not even have an 'experience' to show for it. Now, I did pay $250 22 years ago to stay in a castle, but that was an experience. And we still talk about it.
.
Now, the place that has giraffes that come up right to your window... I'd pay in a heartbeat.

Several years ago I stayed at a B&B in Ireland in a castle, and will never forget it. And it wasn't even a real castle. It was the old county jail that LOOKED like a castle, but to me, it was a castle and I was the lord of the place. Experience certainly is the word, and perception.

You're right! I do! And the rates aren't outrageous.

and this is where this venue is missing a trick in my opinion - http://www.ripleycastle.co.uk/
its a family home - does weddings but all have to stay in the pub which is attacked to the castle across the yard - its a big place id have some totally premium bedrooms in there but that's me. I can see the other side of it that its their home as well and they need a bit of privacy some times as well.

You really have them on every corner there, don't you!
Yes, they could surely make a few units with private entrances that wouldn't bother the family in their home. Put that real estate to work!
I looked all over their website and couldn't find a map, or street address. I wanted to look at it on Google Earth to see if that lake goes all the way around it, because I've decided to be picky and demand a full moat, drawbridge, some nice holes to drop rocks and hot oil on visitors.
Haven't decided if i also want it to have no heat or electricity. You know, the full immersion experience. I could probably handle that, as long as I got the full English breakfast the next morning!

Yes! Looks great, and fun! To get to stay there and have the run of the castle and grounds after the tours end, I'd pay several pounds of that sterling you use for money over there! They are missing out by not putting that resource to work at night as well as in the daytime.

Keep saying that to Lord Harwood - people would pay big bucks to stay in the room the Queen stays in when she visits (she was previous lord Harwood's cousin) don't know what relation that makes her to his son?
He is very sensible, hardworking and forward thinking - just put in a ton of natural heating stuff which means they will never pay another heating bill again insurance for the future

Like I said chap doesn't miss a trick - not in a bad way sees it as his responsibility to leave the estate in the best position possible for his son in turn - for posterity its a proud old family who take their responsibilities seriously.
Plus Previous Lord Harwood was on the Board of Leeds UNited which is DH's football team therefore can do no wrong in his eyes! I believe Lady Harwood has taken his place there.
Plus they are always doing cool events, weddings, giant Aviary all sorts always going on - supports the village, neighbourhood and my town gets the overflow so everyone benefits.

Reminds me of my good friend, Robert Crawley, Earl of Grantham.
You really get to live in a fairy tale, and I'll bet a lot of people there don't really appreciate it all.

Then again, tonight I'm staying in a pyramid for $59. Suite with city views, 2 rooms, huge soaking tub.
