I can be a bit of a Rain Man when it comes to remembering guests and I'm wondering if that might creep some people out.
Ie, I had a call last night enquiring about a stay. The woman said she'd been here before; she gave me her first name and I saw her husband's last name on call display. Boom, I just knew who she was. Long distance runner who'd had a specific health issue, here twice before, once with adult daughters, worked at a certain store, etc.
I asked after her husband by name, asked if she's still running (yes, just ran a marathon, that's why they're having a last minute getaway). She sounded quite pleased but said she couldn't believe I remembered her. After we got off the phone I looked her up in my system and it turns out it's been FIVE years since they stayed here.
I'm not like this with everyone, but it happens fairly regularly. Some of our regular guests I can recognize their voices over the phone without even a name. I don't try to remember all this and lord knows I could put the brain cells to use remembering more important things (like what day it is, or my ipod password).
So is this good customer service or is it creepy to be remembered by someone who's not a consistent or significant part of your life?
