Is there some reason the island where Maddie might go someday on vacation is a secret?
It's like Jon today talking about his recent vacation without naming the place. Hints came out. Somebody drove the strip there once. They have casinos. Scantily clad women leaving little to the imagination. But never could come out and say he had been to Salt Lake City!.
Well, there were hints, like the fact that I cruised to there, twice on transatlantic cruises. It also only gets flights from two cities in North America, Boston and Toronto, where the ex-pats live.
.
The Hawaii of the Atlantic
.
Oh please!!!
.
Geologically, they are very similar: both are chains of islands in the middle of an ocean produced by volcanic activity as the tectonic plates move over "hot spots" in the Earth's mantle. There is active volcanism at the SW end of the Azorean chain, just as in Hawaii.
Granted, their climates and human histories are somewhat different.
FWIW, I am not the first to draw the analogy. Those of you in Hawaii should be flattered -- I would guess there is a reason we don't call the Hawaiian islands the "Azores of the Pacific!"

Just a sassy moment- they share many similarities

During the main tourist season (mostly summer), you can get direct flights from SF to Sao Miguel.

Google can be your friend -- not too many places that don't accept flowers as a form of payment

The Azores are super popular with the Brits. When I flew from Manchester, England to Spain on one of the British airlines, there were tons of cheap flights to those islands. In fact, I was talking to a couple in the airline lounge who were headed there. You'll encounter a lot of English speaking people. ;-)
