Unfortunately, real fires in fireplaces can suck the heat out of a room. I admit that ... even though I love them.
There are four in the house where I live, three working. One has a woodstove that does a good job heating. One has a heat return gizmo with pipes. That one does a fair job. The one in the dining room we can cozy up to ... but it's mainly for ambience.
And that's what I think guests are looking for ...
I stayed in an inn with a wood burning fireplace in the bedroom. It was gorgeous. But the room was freezing with the fireplace blazing.
I just had brunch at a restaurant that had a little electric stove in a little cubby near the table. That was lovely warm.
