First of all, no one was hurt. Secondly, we returned yesterday from vacation so had the calendar blocked for no guests last night.
The big storm that came across that many of you encountered hit us hard, roared at us with over 80 mph winds and took 1/2 of our 100 year old maple down out front and onto the road (big maple).
Secondly it ripped hundreds of shingles off our roof (the orig part of the house has a metal roof, the back has shingles), and threw them everywhere! I am so thankful no one was out there, they are up and down the street and it would have hurt or injured someone if they were hit by one.
The wind raged on and DH and two neighbors were out with hack saws in the dark trying to clear the road while we signaled for cars and emergency vehicles to turn around. Then after midnight a guy from the power company showed up with a chainsaw (ours needs sharpening, and couldn't cut it!).
We went out this morning to assess the damage, it is bad. Our giant hickory has a large limb hanging down ready to snap any minute. We had no power all night, and it was 102 degrees yesterday - broke all records, and was 98 into the night, it never cooled down.
The good news is whatever high winds the storm brought, it took them with, and we had no rain! So the roof was okay during the night. Our first claim on our homeowners will happen today.
