Many of us have spoken of the value of receiving confirmation that emails we send are delivered AND OPENED, so you know they went to a valid address and that they didn't end up in a spam folder.
Of course, most people won't bother to send confirmation replies if you request it via one of those "the sender has asked for confirmation" messages. I hate those myself.
I've found THIS FREE SERVICE that will handle it for you. Of course, email open confirmation is built in to Reservation Key and perhaps some other reservation software, but not everybody has that, and sometimes I need to send mail to guests from outside ResKey.
To use the GetNotify service, you send the email as you usually would, but when you enter the "TO" email address, you add .getnotify.com to it. That causes the email to go first to GetNotify, they add the notification code then forward it on to the recipient. When the recipient opens the mail, you get an email confirmation from GetNotify that includes the following info...

- Date and time the email was opened.
- Location (city, country) where it was opened.
- Recipient's IP address
- How long they read it (I guess, how long it was open before they moved on to do something else)
- And info about their web browser, operating system, etc.
