Sorry if I'm the last person on the planet to discover this but....
All my bedding is white cotton but I do find the colour fades and they look a bit dingy after time. I wondered if it's using 30 minute washes (which I do for 1 nighters) but even a full wash doesn't make any difference.
I've used Glo White a lot and it does improve the look, but it's very temporary.
The other day I was ironing and one of my pillow cases had marks that hadn't come out in the wash, so I put it in the machine on a full wash with some towels and a small scoop of vanish crsytal white. When I made the bed up I was amazed at how white this pillow case was compared to the rest of the set. So I washed the whole set in vanish CW and wow, back to looking like new.
I've now washed all my bedding sets in Vanish CW and they all look much better.
