the new thinking apparently is NO blankets, warm rooms ... worry over SIDS. it's a scary thing but so many theories.
we had a relative stay recently with a toddler and infant and i found the heat too warm for comfortable sleeping. the heat was cranked way up during the entire visit. they also brought a fancy humidifier and baby monitors galore. the temp outside was only 20 or so and we had to have an emergency heating oil delivery during her visit.
by the time my granddaughter is born, i suppose the recommendations will change again. i'll follow whatever rules my daughter gives me ... but wow. 80 degree rooms!.
Your post got me interested, did a search, mayo suggests infants be dressed in t shirt weight onesie with a footed pajama. Room should be kept comfortable for an adult in a t shirt. They warm about too warm, being linked to SIDS. Wow, can't win! I wonder how we lived to adulthood!
.
Again, that's absurd. An adult in a t-shirt? Right now I'm wearing a long sleeve t and a fleece jacket. It's 68 in here. It would have to be 80 for me to be in a short sleeve t! I'd be broke after a winter!
Ok, so when I was a baby, my mother tells me, the common philosophy was to put the baby in a play pen, open the windows in the room and close the door. In the winter! Of course dress the baby appropriately, but let the kid get some cold air.
Now it's 80 degrees in the house, start the car and let it warm up and run the baby to the overheated car!
