And I'm watching the latest Hotel Impossible. I'll have nightmares tonight about the possibility of a loose toenail clipping being found on carpet.
Watching that show makes me better, every episode. Real advice!.
Hotel Impossible is interesting, because Anthony touches some interesting aspects of running a hotel, but I don't like the fact that many "solutions" are actually just plain money investments.
If the hotel owners had 20K-50K laying around for a redesign, they might have done it themselves.
This is why I liked "Hotel Hell" with Gordon Ramsey a little better, because it was more about people's attitudes in this sector, and less about interior design.

GR can't do very much about the attitudes in the US versions of his shows. Take a look at the original UK versions and you will see him go after management a lot more. He tried it in the first few US shows and the managers/owners just walk off and leave. They honestly believe they know everything and can't learn anything new. Which is exactly the problem. I don't believe I know everything in the business. I know what works for me and sometimes what doesn't. But sometimes I just have to change things and try things a different way.
What works for one, may work for others, but may also not work for others. We have different cancellation policies for a reason.... because they work for us.
Anthony on his show talked about the scrub brush for the toilet. He doesn't believe that there should be one in the bathroom, because he doesn't want guests to think about cleaning. I personally like to see one in the hotel so that I can use it if I need to and not be embarrassed if something is "stuck". Also it means that someone is cleaning. We all have different perspectives. Just as petty theft is still theft to me and it isn't to others.
.
Not saying that one does a better job than the other, I enjoy watching Hotel Impossible, but I think the first episodes were a bit more "real". The makeovers were not as expensive as the stuff they do now. He would just repaint the reception, maybe give away an iPad and that's it, the rest was in the service and cleaning.
But now he does pool areas, builds stuff, refurnishes lobbies with complete sets of furniture... Throwing money at problems is easier to do than educating people and changing their perspectives on things.
Looks like Brits have it quite bad down in US. Jamie Oliver, Gordon Ramsey, all struggle with the US folk.

I would say both are very important to turn these places around. Changing their attitude alone may not work if the place still looks horrible and the owners have no money, or talent, or energy to remodel tastefully.
Likewise, a beautiful rehab job means nothing if they do not learn new and better habits. I think Anthony does work on both of these factors.
This new season is interesting in that he sends secret inspectors in with hidden cameras to see if the places he worked with last year really have changed their ways. Some have, some have not.
Like the place in Alaska. I was impressed that they now have remodeled 10 units based on the remodel Anthony did on one unit. But they also filled the "fishing gear" room he created with overflow cleaning supplies and carts and trash storage. That's an example of failure to change their attitude.
You win some, you lose some.

Yes. TiVo records it. I don't even know time or channel. With TiVo it's all automatic. Love it!
I'll try to remember to check what it's on and let you know.

I have nightmares about guests finding HAIRS! I'm obsessed with finding every last hair that could be laying around, mainly in the bathroom. Behind the toilet, on inside of shower curtain, on baseboards or in the shower door track. It's ridiculous, but I know that all it takes is one hair for someone to think the room has not been properly cleaned.
Oh, and hairs on sheets that have come out of the dryer. I know its clean, but if someone pulls back the bedspread and finds a hair our place is "filthy". Ugh! Obsessed I say!

Im the same way-specially the bathroom-
