Heat Wave, my new novel out in June 2011, is set in an old historic house on Nantucket Island. Carley Winsted, widowed with two children, decides to turn her beautiful home into a B&B which she names the Seashell Inn. Nantucket has many beautiful inns and wonderful innkeepers, and I had a glorious time furnishing the three bedrooms, cooking fresh pastries, had writing about the fascinating people from all over the country who came to visit. At one point, Carley thinks that her sister, a nurse, saves lives, but Carley saves marriages. She seldom has to deal with problem plumbing--this is a novel!--but she does work hard, washing towels, cooking, helping people figure out what to do on a rainy day. By running her B&B, Carley discovers strengths and talents she never knew she had.
