Help Support Bed & Breakfast / Short Term Rental Host Forum:
My husband and I have been considering opening a B & B for a few years now. I have been doing research and recently found this site. I have been lurking for a few months and have picked up many wonderful tips and ideas. I thought that maybe it was time to join and meet some of the people on this site who have been so inspiring.
A little background:
I am 48 and semi-retired. Husband (Paul) is 41 and an OTR truck driver. We own our truck but are looking at getting out of trucking. Too much time gone from home, too many expenses, etc. I have worked in the hotel industry as a housekeeper and front desk clerk, have been Food Service Manager at a day care, Nurses' Aide at Nursing Homes, cook at an Assisted Living Center, Red Cross volunteer, mother of 3, step-mother of 1 and grandmother of 4. Paul has worked as a Unit Clerk in a hospital, Nurses' Aide, Credit Card Collector and as an OTR truck driver.
We are currently living in South Dakota but would eventually love to get a small B & B (4 - 5 rooms) somewhere in the South (preferably Alabama, Louisiana or Texas). We are thinking of opening in the next 4 - 5 years and I would love to learn as much as possible in that period of time.
I hope to make many new friends here and to meet some of you in the immediate area so I can "pick your brains" if you will let me!
