We're in the Sierra Nevada Mountains in Northern Ca, two hours west of Reno as the crow or eagle flies. We're at the bottom of a river canyon in the Tahoe National Forest. We're a major attraction for mountain bikers (Downieville Classic is a big draw). We're also a big spot for fishermen, hikers, bird watchers, and other outside activities. We're about 15 miles from the Pacific Crest Trail. We are in the forks of two small rivers that still attracts gold seekers. They found a 5,006 ounce nugget here during the gold rush. I wouldn't mind finding one of those!
Our neighbors include bears, fox, raccoons, deer, lynx, and an occasional mountain lion. We just yell at the bears or throw something at them, but give the mountain lions more respect. There are bald eagles as well as golden eagles around, along with ospreys, and an occasional white pelican. There are lots of other birds but those are the bigger ones.
We've been here 12 years and are ready to move on. Sometimes it's a lot of fun and sometimes not! I'm sure you all know that feeling.
