Online Reviews? Where should I direct people?

A few weeks ago, I thought I sighed up for a TA listing. Still not established. So I read through old posts, and this has me thinking, where should I have guests write reviews. I always check TA, but it sounds like it problematic at times. So, ideas on how to follow up on the nonexistent TA...

    .30 USD

Just posted a change from our Thursday night specials, the price went up 4 pesos. Which is about .30. Got a FB message saying "I don't think so". OMG- The old owners were charging more than 25 pesos more for this same dinner! Wow! And this person has been nothing but nice to me. Just wow!

How to respond to service before you owned the place?

I have really been trying to get more reviews, and today, there was one! Yeah! But upon closer look, from August 2013! We just started last month. :( Besides the broken English, not a very good review. You don't remember what you ate? Why would your review it then? And they just gave you a plate...

    hgtv...casting...is it worth it

So, I know you have talked about this, but here it is again. They are casting for the be ac h fr on t bar gins show, and we just got an email, from our re alator. I guess we could go ahead and fill out the questionnaire but, of what value is this to us? Exposure, we could use that. More...

    Cleaning, daily, weekly, monthly

First, thank you, you have helped my husband and I in innumerable ways! We will try to pay it forward when we have some experience under our belts. The questions about cleaning have really been helpful. But I still wonder, do you provide a daily cleaning touch up, or full service cleaning...

    5 nights in

Well, we opened the restaurant portion of our business last week. Tonight, we hosted a private party. All seemed ok, till one customer stormed over to me in a huff about not getting what they ordered 2 1/2 hours ago. She left before I could get more info. She has now just sent me a f b message...

Welcome home! The buck stops here.

OK, just had an epiphany. If things are going to get done, they need to start with me! Sounds silly, but in a place where I don't speak the language fluently, know the customs, or even how to get anywhere, I am just going to have to take the bull by the horns and get going. Up until this point...

    TV or no TV?

Greetings! We are in Mexico! Starting to clean up, paint, refurnish etc. One question, based on your experience. Should we put in a T.V.? So, it is a one bed room apartment. The bedroom has airconditioning but the rest of the apartment has open slated windows (no a.c. possible). This room will...

How to keep interest in your place?

Morning- sun is shinning and yesterday we closed on our place in Mexico. We are still in Colorado till June. I am now the admin on the FB account (no website, working on that...). Do you have a unique suggestion for the FIRST post by us, the new owners? And any other suggestions on how to keep...

    Room Rates

What are some factors you have used to determine your room rate? If you have an extended stay, do you give a discount, or charge a deposit?

    Training? What's in good training?

How much training did you receive if there was a prior owner? What did you find invaluable? What did you wish they had trained you on, or wish you had know from the beginning? If and when you sell, what will you make sure to "pass on"? Just sent an email to the owner, hoping he will cover...

    Oh my! Credit cards.

Currently, the business takes no CC's, just cash. If this was the US, I would absolutely sign up for credit card payments. But what do you think, is that a huge turn off for you when you go abroad? Their rates are pretty low right now, so that may be part of it. And a few places we have stayed...

    Living quarters

From your experience, what makes the best living quarters? What did you install, wish you had? For the moment, we will stay in one of the rental apartments the prior owners used, but it is not ideal, nor big enough for our family. There is a very large space that we can retrofit to meet our...

    What's in a name?

What did you consider when naming your business? The restaurant has a good, strong, established, logical name for a restaurant. It would see the hotel side had "no name". I suppose we could use the restaurant name ...hotel, but its just not that appealing to me/us. So, thoughts or ideas? I wish...

Where to start? It looks like next week we will have us a lodging.

It has been a long, long road and now, unbelievably, it looks like we might be pulling off the purchase of a established lodge and restaurant. I have been so consumed, that if you could, what would you say are priorities at this point. I certainly have done a ton of research and preparation, but...

    working with your spouse/partner

For those of you who work with your spouse exclusively in your inn, what did you learn from your experience? Specifically, what do you wish you had done differently when going from working outside the home and not seeing each other all day to working as a team, all day? I am sure this change in...

    inn keeping vs. teaching

I was reading one of the old forum topics, I think "how has this changed you", and started to wonder. I left a career as a public school teacher (not even a month ago) to purse our new business. That post got me wondering though, how different is teaching from inn keeping? Are there any former...

    From Colorado to Mexico

Hi! My husband and I are in the process of buying a small, established restaurant and "motel" in Mexico. I found your forum in a guide to running a B/B. I wish I would have logged on 3 years ago! We have been planning a move/change like this for 3 years. We have spent every summer looking for...
