    Eyesore or Environmentally sound?

I guess I must be weird. Last summer, I helped the owner hang the sheets while we discussed which part of the beach across the road belonged to them. I can't imagine with current energy issues that anyone would have a problem with line drying!

    Is anyone NORMAL anymore?

A little late to the game, but just an FYI. Many people who can't eat "gluten" have celiac. My SIL has that, and although she's tall and thin, if she breaks the diet her stomach swells and she looks 8 months pregnant - very painful. She can rarely eat 'safely' without running an inquiry with...

Has anyone noticed this trend in the under 30 crowd?

I'm just over from the thread discussing food sensitivities... now why can't people who don't want breakfast let you know ahead of time? Mind you, if they did that they would likely want a discount. I'm surprised by this thread, though. My 16-yeaqr old hardly eats breakfast at home, but loves...

    lactose intolerant guest

I know from experience how odd allergies and sensitivities can be. My cousin can eat cold lobster, but can't even inhale the cooking steam without getting out an epi pen and off to the hospital for a couple of days (as we learned when sitting around outside, with steam coming out of the...

    Happiness comes to Strawberry Farm

Congrats, Linda, and all the best to the new parents too!

    Why guests switch

You may also want to consider the economy. Many of my friends are putting off trips abroad, and trying new things either more locally, or within the province or country (odd, since I live in Canada and some of us can get flights abroad much cheaper than flights across our own country!) I...

    Linens for owners

Re: TP. As an avid B&Ber, I don't expect a new roll of tp, not any more than I do at public functions, washrooms at the mall, at friends' houses... but please, also leave at least one extra roll in case we run out! Also, having read seashanty's comment, I'll probably pull a few sheets off the...

When guests talk out of both sides of their mouths.

I've spoken to some people who have this sense of entitlement -- I'm paying to stay there, therefore... I know one person who travels a lot for business, and takes everything that is 'complementary',. What's worse, she brags about not having had to buy shampoo, toilet paper and the like for...

Thanks for the welcome! I have to admit I am a long way from having a B&B (if ever), but it is something that has appealed for some time. I'm learning so much from reading posts here that would apply elsewhere anyway, that I don't think it's a loss even if I don't get to a B&B. Client service...

UGH! I am exhausted from refusing 1 night stays.

    Sorry - double post!

UGH! I am exhausted from refusing 1 night stays.

As an example, this week-end we're doing Fall Art Tours in three different areas between here and there. So Saturday driving there, visiting art studios as we go along, stay overnight, Sunday driving back by a different route visiting art studios again. The B&B where we're staying has only 3...

Crock-Pot Cooking for the Innkeepers Meals

There are crockpot recipes for breakfasts as well. Has anyone out there tried them with guests?

UGH! I am exhausted from refusing 1 night stays.

As a customer, I can definitely say that I would not even consider paying a premium for a one-night stay on a week-end. There are too many other options in this area. That being said, your needs and your market will dictate what you can do. If I ever do get to own a B&B, I'll have to beg your...

    Clueing in the clueless

I agree. We often stay in B&Bs, and once even in an historic Inn, where shoes were not permitted and it was no problem, as long as there's plenty of space in the foyer area to store the shoes out of the way. You have to remember, you make the rules, the guests follow them.

I've had occasion to stay in many B&Bs over the past 5 years, most 3 rooms or less so I guess that's what you would term "Mom & Pop". They usually strike a pretty good balance between being accessible and leaving us alone. As far as amenities and services go, we're low maintenance: good...

Do you eat with your guests?

Also agree! I've been staying at B&B's for about 5 years for vacations and week-ends away (alone, with husband, with husband and son, or more). Perhaps I'm a bad client, but it would never occur to me to 'invite' a B&B owner/innkeeper to sit down and have breakfast with me, and I've never seen...
