Thanks to all of you who posted. I'm going to have my husband read your postings. I hope it works and he decides it might be a good idea to start a Bed and Breakfast so we will have something useful, creative and interesting to do instead of retiring from teaching with no real purpose in mind.

The house is 14 years old. The flooring is not pre-finished. It is finished with varnish. All hardwood and most of it is cherry.
