Has anyone stayed at any B&B's in Asheville? We're going to take my almost 80 yr old Mother In Law right after Christmas, she's always wanted to go to The Biltmore Estate.

There are a ton and we have guests stay here enroute, then there when they go to The Biltmore. I wish I had a list of them. There is one huge place where the innkeepers live in a tiny cabin on the property - our British guests called it a shack, but I knew they meant cabin. The house was over the top and they felt very uncomfortable. So check out the websites well. I know you want some innkeeper care and interaction with your MIL. Let us know how it turns out.

We visited the Biltmore but stayed in Waynesville, NC about 25 miles away at the Inn at Iris Meadows. It is a beautiful house and the innkeepers, George and Becky, are very nice. Becky used to be on the about forum many moons ago. I can recommend it highly - lots of nice amenities and common rooms.

I was looking on b&b.com last night and I know there's a ton of Inns there
They are pretty pricey too for the nice ones. Then there's the fact that I need to get 3 of us into 1 room.......I can't afford to pay for 2 rooms for 2 nights and I know she can't afford that much either but I'm going to keep looking as I would really like to take her to a B&B as she has never been to one before. My Father In Law died 2 years ago in January and her 1 daughter & family lives out in Arizona (and she's wierd...) and the other daughter & family will be in Florida for Christmas so I feel obligated to take care of her, I know the Holidays are hard for her and she feels lonely a lot of the time so I wanted to make this a memory she would remember.

Looks nice! Rates range from $225 - $300
and I didn't see a charge for extra person in room. I'm going to send them an email and see if they have anything that would suit our needs. I will tell them you sent me their way! I don't mind driving a bit to get to Biltmore since we will only be doing it 1 day anyway.

Waynesville is a very nice little town - less crowded than Asheville but still with some nice restaurants - both upscale and casual. We were there for three nights and would love to go back again.

I sent them an email a little while ago. Since I need to fit 3 people in a room, without having to email every Inn I look at, I'm assuming if they can accomodate it they would put the $ charge in their policy page??

I don't know about that - when I look at their avaiability page all the rooms have a maximum occupancy of 2. I don't recall them having any rooms that obviously took 3 people - the one room with two beds are both twin beds. You will need to call them or wait for an email response.

We have stayed at The Wright House Inn, the Inn on Montford. Also the Black Walnut Inn. I now see many are putting the "year" in front of their inn name must be getting real cut throat down there now. Most of these places are VERY expensive!!! I'd suggest looking over in Black Mountain for more reasonable priced inns. The small town is lovely and not that far from Asheville. Or just get a motel in Asheville.
The Biltmore at Christmas is SPECTACULAR. If you can go to a candlelight tour do so. We loved it!!!

There is a cute place run by Sandee Wright in Maggie Valley which appears to be 35 miles away. She has accommodations for three I think. Check her website at

Riki.
Thats a little bit of a drive to Asheville. If they want to do the Biltmore and the town... I suggest being closer than Maggie Valley.
The last time in Asheville we just stayed at the Country Inn & Suites. It was nice..not a B & B..but certainly less expensive than most of the B & B's in town.

We stayed at Blowing Rock - which I loved!
If you have read the Jan Karon MITFORD SERIES then you will recognise Blowing Rock as the town of Mitford to a T.

The Black Walnut was beautiful! I looked at some hotels last night and that is probably what we are going to do. Started thinking that I don't want to have to sleep with my MIL so a B&B probably won't work unless we get 2 rooms and then that's going to get real expensive (especially since Caitlin and I are going to Disneyworld for a week right before Christmas!!). I can book at The Renaissance for $159 or The Holiday Inn Express for $112 and then MIL can have her own bed
I really wanted to give her the B&B experience....but maybe next time!

She has a cute place! I didn't think I would like it from looking at the outside since it's not my stye, but I really liked the guest rooms! Every room she has is booked the times we are going to be there. She doesn't even charge for extra people!

I think a suite at the Country Inns was about $125. It feels pretty homey..nice fireplace in the reception area and a nice continental breakfast. Cookies for guests at night. It was fine.

Yeah, that's a cute town! But way too far from Asheville, almost 2 hours NE!

Two points for the area. 1) The Cherokee nation casino is a big draw (I am speaking of in the area, ie while you are there). People travel to go to it. 2) The McDonald's near teh Biltmore mimics the Biltmore with table service, fireplaces, artwork. People go there just to go to the McDonalds. (Weird I know but it is something people do)

No way on the McDonalds!! That is someplace I would never go just to go since we don't eat much fast food, but now we will have to go, that's neat!! Going on my list to do right now!
