Time Magazine had an interesting article this week on electronic, smokeless cigarettes and how they are helping people get their nicotine fix without flame or smoke. They have a battery in them, and a vial of nicotine. When the person sucks on the tube, the battery vaporizes a little nicotine and sends it down the tube. At the same time, an LED bulb glows at the other end to make it look like a cigarette, but there's no heat or smoke.
I just saw a post on the PAII board, asking if inn guests should be allowed to use these things on the property. Interesting question. If it just LOOKS like a cigarette, is that reason enough to forbid it on the property? There's no smoke or odor, as I understand it, no heat to burn holes in furniture. No ashes. Nothing objectionable about it except that it looks like a cigarette.
I wonder how state laws, that forbid smoking in public places, will deal with them. If there is no flame, no smoke, and no second-hand damage, is it smoking???
