Had a close call with a 'service dog' recently. The Mom made a reservation for just herself. Then called a couple days later to ask if she had her adult daughter (40 yo) join her would it cost extra. Nope, I told her it would be the same price. Then she tells me that her daughter has a service dog. I ask if it's a service dog or a therapy dog. She doesn't know...then I asked what service the dog provides and she didn't know! Really? Your daughter has a big enough issue to require a 'service' dog, and you don't know how it helps?
I told her if it was a service dog, I could not refuse or charge more. If it was a therapy dog, I could refuse. Got a nice e-mail from her a couple of days later saying that she appreciated my graciousness and that she would be there alone.
Whew! I really wish they would regulate this issue!!.
Sounds like a big ole' lie to me. Daughter said, 'I'll come but only if I can bring my dog.' Mom says, 'they don't take dogs.' We have not had that issue with dogs...kids are another matter. Now, when we get the inquiry on the phone the first question out of my mouth...before I even look at the calendar is "Is this for 2 adults? We do not have accommodations for children or pets."
It never fails, when I forget or when DH takes the call it is 5 minutes later that the "Oh we have a very well behaved 2 year old" gets mentioned..

Caller: "Do you have availability for so and so date?"
Me: "So and so date for one night for two adults, no children?"
Saves me MASSIVE amounts of time. I especially like the ones that try to get huffy about not accepting children. "You don't accept children???" Dead tone reply "No". When they realize it's not open for discussion, the conversation goes real quick.
