For those of us in coastal NE, we might get some tropical storm winds but I can't imagine that the cold ocean waters won't take the major punch out of this storm. Hurricanes need warm water to feed their power engine and it's just too cold here for that right now.
I really don't think it is my responsibility to entertain my guests if the weather turns bad. If they are adventurous they can take a walk to the top of the hill and experience the full force of mother nature as the ocean roars in. Otherwise they can amuse themselves and take the time to relax..

I agree with this. As long as their safety is ensured while under your roof, that ends your responsibility. A hurricane or even just a tropical storm is not a time to be concerned with entertaining. There are far too many other things going on to occupy your mind and time.

Like sitting here waiting for the power to go out. Sigh. At least we're not busy tonight. But if the power goes out Friday night or Saturday morning we're toast.

We have a well..no town water..so when the power goes out we have no water. Today we will spend the day buttoning up the place, pulling in all the potted plants, tying up the loose furniture, filling all the water containers, pulling down the storm windows and planning a breakfast that won't need electricity for tomorrow morning, just in case. Sooooo much work. Still banking on just a big blow with plenty of rain. Luckily we do not have a boat in the water. Harborfields, thinking of you and hoping that you get everything battened down and secured.
Planning for the worst but hoping for just a tropical storm.
