This has been on my mind since talk of Gillum's mugs. I've got mug fever - just need to pass it on the the one with the checkbook

Looks like De neen pot ter y has more than enough business and we know they are not cheap.

I will say that pottery mugs sell a lot faster than the ceramic, find them anywhere mugs do. We have the latter. Some innkeepers claim to sell 100's of the pottery mugs every year. So, you can let the checkbook know that! You can make up the cost of buying them thru selling them.
We mostly give ours away, but they're not expensive in the least.
(I have the mug fever, too. I have probably close to 100 mugs on my mug shelf in my kitchen. Soon to be sorted, I need the space for the newest mugs! I've had some of them for 30 years.)

One of us IS a potter -- she just hasn't yet gotten around to making our own "Harborfields" logo-ed mugs yet (she did make some for the ski area where she teaches skiing in the winter, though). One concern is that if we put them out in the cottages, they are going to end up broken. But that shouldn't stop us from having them for sale in the office, right?

This is one reason (the other is time) that I don't have my handmade quilts in the guest rooms. Sure, have them in the office as a souvenir. Guests can buy them to use in the cottage and then take them home. Because I would bet they would just 'go' home if you had them in the cottages to start with.

I will be adding this to my sights of interest blog series, but since you mentioned pottery here, check it out (not far from us). http://www.emersoncreekpottery.com/.
Very nice looking things. If I had found them sooner I would probably have much of it around here. Now my pottery collecting days are over. They are just dust catchers for me now..but many nice memories as well.

Here Here!
It is sure fun tho.

My potter likes me so gives me an affordable price. I have used them as gifts and as donations with roasts of coffee but they fly off the shelf. He signs each mug with name and location and since they are hand thrown, no two are alike. We had a difficult time finding two close to the same size for a guest who is picky about size matching - but we did it!! I have never had one stolen - but that is probably due to the fact we are so small - the "appropriator" would be easily identified. Oh, Harborfields, no one has broken one yet. DH knocked a handle off when washing the old version, used super glue, and has used that as his personal mug (afraid it would part company while a guest was using it) for a cople years now.

Impressive, Harborfields! Yes, in her spare time she can get around to making some mugs. I love hand thrown pottery but have none of it. I somehow ended up with lots of china over the years through relatives (and having a B&B).
I think the pottery mugs are great to sell and people will pay the price! A friend of mine bought a bunch of them for gifts when we stayed at a B&B on a girlfriends' getaway - she didn't blink at the price.
I have gotten rid of more mugs than I care to think of - used to get them as giveaways at conference in the medical field... but they were not pottery mugs.

An update (since there has been some recent discussion about mugs in the resource section) - we do now have our own logo mugs, produced in-house as it were:

Beautiful!! The handle looks big enough to accommodate a man's hand and the cup large enough to know you had a cup of coffee. Excellent. Kudos to the potter. She does lovely work.

Hmmm. Dense, I am.
I finally figured out who this new "Kay Nein" is. I was rhyming nein with vein and rein.

It is kinda clever isn't it?

I have a favorite hand thrown clay mug that I got from my innspiring road trip. I wont' say which because I actually got a few of them, and each one is special to me! :) Thanks again innmates.

I don't have any of their mugs... or any mugs for that matter (except for some pretty crystal ones), due to the 'style' of our b&b.
But~ The B&B we want to purchase (when we sell this one), will be perfect for mugs! And I bet they will sell well there too. I've requested a catalog from this company.
Can you (or anyone on the forum) give me a general idea of cost and what to retail them for? Do they make the logo etc.?

I think you provide them with the logo, or they could design one for you..but it is big bucks I am sure. I think mugs run $20 a mug...pretty pricey for a mug in my opinion. I wouldn't pay it.

Surely that can't be 'wholesale' pricing can it? I see other B&B's selling them for $15 ea
