Argh! I think I'll go back to the UK accommodation forum now!

The one with the bright red hair's parents own the restaurant at the bottom of our street so I guess I'll go with that one! What a horrendous troupe the Geordie Shore lot are!
.
I could have posted Bobby Norris in his bathing suit for you :) but that's Essex. You know I'm only teasing. I don't expect every Geordie to be so classy :)
But to be honest, I think you, me and one other member might know they are. The rest didn't even know what a Geordie was until they googled it.

The really scary thing is that the show generates tourists! *shudder*

PS The only way is up for your choice of television viewing. ;)

I'm an Alex Polizzi and Mary Portas kind of TV guy, with a little Graham Norton and a lot of Brendan O'Carroll kind of guy.

I think my sig is more relevant to UK B&B owners, as shown by your previous comment comparing UK & US B&Bs.

Welcome! Glad you joined. Pull up a chair and join the crew!

Hi,
Like Annie I was recommended to your forum by gillumhouse.
Although we no longer run a B&B we run eight self catering cottages (I think you call them Vacation Rentals) along the same lines as we ran our B&B. The cottages consist of a classic UK Derbyshire set of converted farm buildings around a courtyard with the farm house (where we did B&B). Our reception is open 12+ hours a day and the guest interaction, service levels etc are very similar to those we offered our B&B guests. The only difference is we don't service the cottages daily and we don't serve Breakfast (although we did in our first few years). We have been in the business over 11 years and ran the B&B in the farmhouse for 5 of those years (we closed the B&B due to the increase in regulations).

Welcome Chris! Our business is very similar to yours -- vacation cottages in Maine (http://www.harborfields.com/).
Are you familiar with the http://www.laymyhat.com/ forum? -- sort of like this one, but for self-catering cottage owners, primarily in the UK and France...

Hi Harborfields,
Love the picture on your web site looking through the kitchen window.
Yes I am a member of laymyhat but stopped posting when I discovered that it was populated by too many Agency businesses. I see Agencies as major competition (far more than other accommodation providers). We don't use any agencies preferring to directly market our accommodation so in the end decided to keep out of any discussions.

Yep. Afraid so. They have to be recycled somewhere and what better than an accommodation business to keep them out of everyone else hair.

Hi,
I tried to get on with Wordpress for our main site (we use it for all our blogs) but gave up when I realised I would have to learn how to write plugins to get it to do what I wanted and our hosting service didn't offer a wordpress performance optimisation option. Although Google Analytics is on the site I rarely if ever use it as an analysis tool. I use http://www.web-stat.com/ which I find far easier to use on a day to day basis and provides far easier to understand stats (it does however cost but is money well spent).

In the red/brown bar right above the post text is the date and time. And the post you are replying to. The time is off by an hour.
