I spoke to a guest who plans on staying here but had to work out some kinks. I told her to let me know ASAP when they would be checking in , because I need time to get the extra beds ready. She said, don't worry about it, in Europe, where her family is from, they make their own beds! So, there you go my friends, you no longer have to make the beds for your European guests, they're happy to do it themselves!

HA! I wish!

We found this is the way beds are made in Germany and the Czech Republic. Our beds were made for us. Nice that each of us had our own comforter and we didn't have to fight over the covers, lol!
Grumble, grumble. Table in the way. three pillows, and two comforters folded in half.

I've had Europeans ask if I have another duvet for the second person to use. This is a good visual of what they wanted.

I guess when I went to smaller window to full window, the image was corrected. I tried to edit, but somehow I didn't get that option this time.
Now I know who catlady is. Hard keeping track sometimes. :)

I noticed that the hotel web site I just did...have been doing all their pillows like this!
.
My pillows won't make that fancy dent (not down pillows) but I'm going to try the layout.
What looks dopey, tho, which I saw 2 weeks ago, are tiny pillows on a king bed lined up like that.

Is there a top sheet on the bed? Is this only a summer set-up? I would think it's too light for the cold months...

My friends in Germany use duvets this way. The duvet cover is your top sheet, so they only have the fitted bottom and the duvet cover on top. The comforters inside the duvets were down, but I'd guess you could switch them out and have a lighter and heavier one depending on the season. Each person had their own, even if they share a bed.
Their pillows are square instead of rectangular as well.
=)
Kk.

A word from Suzanne. I shared a pic of her bed with the 3 pillows:

Good morning Carol,

Duvets which are filled with down are warm in the winter, warmer than wool blankets. The ones that are filled with a polyfill are somewhat less warming. The sheet is there but it is around the duvet. Actually the amount of material is about the same as in a top sheet but it requires more sewing tip to create. It has the advantage that stays on the item and doesn't get so messy and crumpled as a sheet would.

Peered into the website and saw that everyone around the world has the same problems. People are just people whereever you go.

Regards,
Suzanne Vorbrugg, Fuessen

I find the down duvets I have are warm in the winter but cool in the summer. It may just be the duvet cover that makes it feel cool.

I was born and raised in Germany, am a true german...I miss my duvet like that. They are very warm and cuddly in the winter and somehow keep you cool in the summer. Also having your own is very nice. Whenever I am compfy and my DH turns, he pulls the blanket right with him, grrrrr
The pillows are also down, that's why they so easily made into those shapes, just give them a "karat chop" and viola, you're done.
Our pillows on the couches are like that too....no matter what room, pillows always have "the look" in europe.
I was originally wanting to do this style in my B&B, but can't find the right bedding. Soooo, when I go back to visit, I guess I'll go on a shopping spree....
